100 calories vs. 100 calories
When we started learning about diet, first of all certainly a lot of explaining that the diet is a diet, does not mean not eating or eating only once a day. Then next is the basic knowledge that if you want to lose weight, the only way is to create the conditions that the calories in smaller numbers than calories out. Really like that? Apparently the answer is OF COURSE NOT, and can even gain weight!
Lose weight if more calories out than calories that go? Let’s look at another example. Feather and stone weighing 1 ounce is also weighing 1 ounce, was dropped together in a vacuum. Which will reach the bottom first? Both will reach the bottom because it weighs the same time. But let’s do the same experiment but this time not in a vacuum but was dropped from one building in Kuningan, Jakarta. With the same weight, which will reach the ground first? Surely the stone right?
Why rock can fall first was because there are so-called “Water Resistance” in which air can put a halt to the fall of the stone to the ground. Now back again the issue of calories, indeed if tested in the lab, all calories are calories and if calories out is greater than the calories that go then the result is weight loss. This is the same as the test we did in the earlier vacuum. No other factors in an experiment in the lab. But when the calories in the form of food that we test in our body, our metabolism will be influenced by many factors that are not visible to the eye as the air in the case of fur and rock.
Our bodies burn calories consistently continuously at all times, even when we sleep though. Because of that, put calories into the body quickly in a short time will make the amount of excess calories in the body jumped and will be used as needed, the excess will be stored as fat. For example, we drink soda with a number of 100 calories, will provide a quick injection of calories into the body because soda contains simple carbohydrates that are very easily absorbed by the body. But we appeal to consume sweet potatoes with the same number of calories is 100 calories, but it is a complex carbohydrate, which requires a much longer process of absorption, the body will absorb the calories from sweet it slowly so that no spikes in the body of excess calories and no are converted into fat.
From this we can conclude, that the most important in the diet is not the number of calories but it’s kind of calories. Not all calories are created equal. In the laboratory, a calorie is a calorie, but our bodies are machines with different instruction and will process the calories of different foods in different ways as well.
Therefore consider the TYPE of calories you consume!
